The Details on the Obamacare Unconstitutional Ruling and What Happens Next

There is a very good chance this "prize" of B.O.'s will end up in the Supreme Court of the United States. I am not prepared to predict how that would go. But I'm not holding my breath that the people represented by over 50% of the States of the United States would win. B.O. does have friends in higher places.

But you know at this point, I really don't care any more. In one sense, it does not matter. What matters here is that we have a piece of legislation rammed through in an unconventional manner and over 50% of the subordinate states to the Federals are against it and prepared to take it all the way if necessary. (B.O. is likely to appeal upwards.) That in itself -- that 50% of the states oppose -- is worthy of utter shame to any incumbent in the White House. But that's assuming the man really cares about shame and has an understanding of it. Take a look at the details.

Next Puzzle Piece Falls Into Place: Military Won't Use Force Vs. Protesters if Peaceful

The pieces are falling into place. Military has declared more of its hand. B.O. working behind the scenes, still playing both sides of the eventual equation (as usual) and getting hated more by the hour.

ElBaradei ready to represent the protesters and take power if given to him. So is the Muslim Brotherhood. And so is a former candidate Ayman Nour.

Protesters have given Mubarak until Friday to leave but have not indicated what will happen if he does not.

Netanyahu fears extremist regime in Egypt

But what is also interesting in this article is the show of friendship between two former enemies -- Germany and Israel. Six decades after the holocaust, these two countries have bonded very strongly together. I suppose as has the rest of the world with Germany. If they can do it, surely others could live in peace. But religion that is based on "killing all those that disagree with it" makes this pretty tough.

I heard many Egyptians on TV yelling "we hate Mubarak; because he supports the Jews; the Jews are our enemies; we hate Mubarak and we hate the Jews." What can you do under those circumstances? Do you really want to know . . . Well, the answer is . . .

Not much. You can't do anything. It's in God's hands. But you can't sit on your "butt" or "fanny" either. You need to act and do all you can to stem the tide.

Judah Puts His Own Integrity and Relationship With His Father On The Line - Genesis 43:8-10

And Judah said to his father Israel, “Send the lad with me, and we will arise and go, that we may live and not die, we as well as you and our little ones.  I myself will be surety for him; you may hold me responsible for him.  If I do not bring him back to you and set him before you, then let me bear the blame before you forever.  For if we had not delayed, surely by now we could have returned twice.”

Jacob has said “no, Benjamin cannot go with you to Egypt”.  He has blamed his sons for putting him in a difficult situation.  Now Judah steps up to the plate recognizing the necessity of another trip to Egypt to get grain, if the extended family of Jacob is to survive.

He goes to his father and effectively says, “Trust your son with me.  Let him come with us.  We must get to Egypt for if you don’t let us, we will all die.  You will die, father.  Your grandchildren will die, too.”  As a father and a grandfather, I am not sure that I could deal with that.  The decision before Jacob reminds me of the old movie, Sophie’s Choice, starring Meryl Streep, where she needed to choose which child of hers would be killed by the Nazis in order to save the other.  God forbid that any of us should ever be in that kind of position.  But it gives us a little glimmer into how Jacob may have felt.

Even with those arguments, Jacob does not seem to budge in his position.  It is then that Judah plays his strongest card.  He tells his father his relationship with him will be the surety Jacob will have.  If Judah does not bring Benjamin back, he will give up all rights to his relationship with his father and he will bear the blame the rest of his life.  We have to understand child-parent, and especially father-son relationships of the day and culture.  First there was great respect for a parent by a child.  Second, albeit not always evident, there was great pride of a son by his father.  (This arrangement continues today in many Middle Eastern and Eastern European countries.  My own father never told me how proud he was of me, but he kept telling his friends who told me.  Not always easy to swallow that way, but once I realized his love for me; I was able to accept it.)  The idea of Judah being prepared to give up this relationship, and probably rights to any inheritance, was a significant offer.  Then add to that the sincerity of being willing to live the rest of his life as the one being blamed for the death of Benjamin should he not bring him back, and you had an offer no father could refuse.

Judah, then drives the logic of what he was asking for forward with one last argument, that of the simplicity of the task before them.  He says to Jacob, “look we could have gone and come back twice by now if we went when we needed to.”  The ball was clearly in Jacob’s court.  Would he hold on to it or would he entrust it to the rest of his team?

What does it take to convince you to let go of an idea or a person or a thing that has been dear to you?  We often tell our young people who have fallen in love with someone who wants to be moving on to another romance, “if you love them, let them go; if they never come back, it was never meant to be”.  The expression does not apply in this case as it was meant to – between two people.  Benjamin was not the one here who wanted to be set free to go to Egypt.  But the saying has some relevance if we escalate it to a meaning between man and God.  If God wants us to let go of something or someone dear in our lives, are we prepared to do so?  Are we prepared to find out what God has in store for us if we obey Him?  That is the question for us here from this passage.  Some of us need to apply it to our children, our ministries, and our belongings.  Let us be so close to God that doing so would become much easier and His blessings, so much more revealed.

Personal, Spiritual, Internal Revolution . . .

With everything going on in Egypt and in other hotspots around the world these days, it may be wise to stop for a moment and consider a different kind of revolution that is possible and has been going on for over 2,000 years.  Here is the call by the movement's founder:

"I am the way, the truth, and the life."   (found in the gospel of John, chapter 14, verse 6, in the Bible)

Charles F. Stanley has this to say on that:

"When we become a friend of Jesus, something revolutionary happens inside us.

"Our spirits, our hearts, our souls, our perspectives on life, and our capacities to love all change dramatically.  We become a 'new creation.' . . .

"Jesus gives to us something aar more valuable than any human friend can ever give: he reveals to us the truth about God . . . the truth about ourselves . . . the truth about the relationship He desires to have with us . . . an the truth He desires for us to have with other human beings.  He reveals in His own presence within us the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.  He is Truth."

This is the only true and most viable alternative these days.

Book Recommendation: "Climategate" -- Global Warming, Who Makes Millions, and Who Controls Your Home.

Regardless of what side you are on in this debate, you owe it to yourself to read the arguments against Al Gore and his Global Warming theory.  I'll try to stay calm on the topic, but you won't remain calm if you read this Climategate: A Veteran Meteorologist Exposes the Global Warming Scam by Brian Sussman, WND Books, Washington, D.C., 2010.

This book is also recommended if you "own a home".   You won't believe what is happening right now and what's in the future over the battle of who controls your home.  Why your "smart homes" are playing you for a real "dummy".

Finally, if you hate people making millions by promoting false fear with no research, you'll want to know about who is doing with the theory of global warming.

That The World May Not Know. . . Shame! Shame! Shame!

This article makes us aware of the extent that countries (proud countries may I add) go to in order to present a false image to the world. CBC reports that an Indian city will actually pay beggars to stay off the street during the upcoming World Cup games from Feb. 19 to April 2.

Did they actually think this would not be noticed? And after the games, then what? Let them beg. Wow.

Three hundred beggars getting paid $2.11 per day for over 40 days. What a price for "national good looks through cosmetic reconstruction of who can walk on our streets".

And oh, get this. They're doing it for us -- the tourists and guests that need to walk freely on the streets during this "prestigious event". And who are the tourists? The rich that can afford to go there in the first place. Yes, let's keep the rich from seeing the truth by all means. Give me a break in life, please.

The only thing I can say to India and whoever thought this up, in this day and age is what my father used to say in his broken English when he was disgusted with things leaders (or church people would do or not do): "Shame! Shame! Shame!" It fits.  Wear it well, India.

He wants to do it with the help of the Muslim Brotherhood that he says is strictly a religious body. Really? He is also calling for Mubarak to leave the country. Finally, he is a former head of the Atomic Energy Agency (from 1997 to 2009) and led the Agency during all the debate about the Iranian nuclear program. As an Egyptian, he has come to take charge, but says he's only willing to help when asked directly. Yes, about as much as I want to stop writing. Give me a break in life, as a friend used to say.

Charles Price this morning provided some good insight into the danger of blind conformity in the church.  For example, uniformity to man-established tradition makes it easier for all those inside a church to get along (you know, it's easier to switch and be like the rest of them than fight); but it has a great danger of alienating outsiders -- the very ones both the Church, capital 'C" and the small-c church should be reaching out to.

Price suggests:
In essential beliefs -- unity.
In non-essentials -- freedom.
In both -- love.

Consider this in light of Ephesians 4:1-6 -- Unity in the Community; and 4:7-13, Diversity of the Community.

What I Saw in "127 Hours" Is Most Powerful, If You Let It Be

Recently I had the opportunity, by accident no less, to see the movie 127 Hours starring James Franco.  I say by accident as we had intended to see a different movie, but the theater was having technical difficulties with the sound and we switched over to 127 Hours.  This movie is about a mountain climber who becomes trapped under a boulder while 'canyoneering' alone near Moab, Utah and resorts to desperate measures in order to survive.  It's based on a true story that many of us may remember in the news back in 2003, I believe.  I won't give the plot and outcome away for the sake of those that don't remember the media coverage at the time.

Let me just tell you what I could not help but see as I sat there in the theater watching it.  Several scenarios came to mind.  But first let me share what was playing on the screen.  Here was a man left alone with nature.  There was no one to help him.  He wanted to live life alone, not even telling people where he was going or what he was doing.  In everything he took on to do, he ignored the advice of experts and did it his way.  Now, trapped deep in a canyon, there was precious little he could do.  His situation got worse and worse.  His body and then his mind started to become affected by the accident.  Many scenes from his life from birth to the present kept flashing through his mind and often seemed to be relived there in front of his eyes in the canyon of death.  But what was I thinking as I watched this?

The camera work was so good that even though it was not 3D, I still felt I was right there within feet of his agony, but there was absolutely nothing I could do.   Like a young male teenager who sees a beautiful movie star walk a red carpet in front of him, or like a child in a Belgian chocolates store I could watch, but could not touch, even to help in case of the star tripping or the chocolates spilling to the floor.  That feeling alone when felt in conjunction with watching someone die, was very uncomfortable.

The first off-screen scenario that came to my mind was that of my father in his hospital bed on his last day of life, December 31, 2006.  His lungs had collapsed from all the cancerous growths in his body, and the doctors had, after speaking with us, just given him what was required to ease the pain but not try to delay the inevitable.  I saw my father stretching out his hands and uttering any sounds he could, begging for help and gasping for air.  In seconds, he was gone and it was over.  There was nothing more I could do.  In thinking about it this morning as I write, I am also reminded of my mother's death, twenty-four years prior to my dad's.  It was similar.  I had taken her into the hospital in the ambulance.  She was in coma.  Only this time I was not present when she died.  I simply got the call in the middle of the night from the hospital.  When I hung up the phone, this feeling of helplessness lingered for some time.

The second scenario that came to mind as I was viewing 127 Hours was the story of The Rich Man and Lazarus found in Luke chapter 16 of the Bible.  The rich man had died and ended up in Hades but he could see the poor man Lazarus (not the brother of Mary and Martha that Jesus raised from the dead in another part of scripture).  Anyway, the rich man (who lived life his way not paying attention to the rules) was begging Father Abraham to allow Lazarus who had also died and was resting in Abraham's bosom, to "dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off" his tongue, for he was "in agony in this flame."  The main character in 127 Hours was in the same situation, progressively dying from thirst and the director had great footage of the 'need for water' image.  That alone was worth the movie.  But you need to read the rest of this story of Lazurus to better understand why I related it in my mind to the movie I was watching (click here).

The final image I kept seeing was that of my friends and loved ones who at the time of their own death could not save themselves,  No matter how smart they were, there was nothing they could.  They had lost the game they thought they were playing and winning.  Doing it their way didn't amount to anything but insects crawling over their bodies and unanswered calls to a God they had never recognized as even existing during their lives.  I was not comfortable in my seat at all.

I immediately thought of an 82 year old neighbor living alone that had suffered a stroke this past week and was found by police four days later, still alive.  I had last visited him 13 months earlier, taking him Christmas dinner and visiting briefly.  I prayed in the theater that I would have one more chance to visit him in the hospital before he died.  I resolved to do that.  At the very least I would talk to him about dying, salvation through Jesus Christ, and what happens "One Second After You. . .Die".  That is, providing he was still alive.

I also resolved to continue to seek every opportunity I get to share my own personal experience -- with this movie, my life, and my God to whomever I get an opening to do so.  I will look for those opening much more fervently.   Seeing this movie last night may have started out to be 'by accident' but as the main character in the movie suggests in the end -- 'nothing is by accident'.

ElBaradei interviewed on CNN

On CNN: ElBaradei, a potential Egyptian leader says the American credibility in Egypt is almost non-existent.  He believes B.O. will eventually have to join the call for Mubarak's stepping down.  When asked if he was confident that a post-Mubarak government would not fall into radical Islamic hands, he said there is no connection between the religious Muslim Brotherhood and what is going on in other countries.   There is 100% difference between the two.   He also indicated he was willing to serve in Egypt in whatever way possible when asked if he would serve as President.

Sunday Morning News - January 30, 2011

FoxNews Rpts: U.S. Embassy tells Americans they should consider leaving Egypt as soon as possible because of unrest, violence and ongoing demonstrations against President Hosni Mubarak's government.

BBC: Netanyahu of Israel monitoring situation carefully but has told his ministers to stay silent for now.  Israel wants stability in the region and this situation upsets that.  Worse case scenario for Israel would be the Muslim Brotherhood take over or win in any future elections.

BBC: Military helicopters and jets now flying over Cairo.  But to "cut a deal" with the Egyptian people the government needs to return the Internet for starters.

CNN: U.S. Embassy in Cairo says it will assist U.S. citizens who want to leave Egypt. Flights to depart on Monday.

BBC: One doctor reported 50 people shot (wounded not necessarily dead) in the last 24 hours.

CNN: John McCain -- his greatest fear is that this revolt turn out like Iran as compared to the Phillipines; that is, an Islamic regime.  The longer it takes the greater the chances it going that way

Outrageous Story of Hawaii Wanting To Make Money From B.O.'s Birth Certificate

It won't be the real thing by their own admission, but if this Democratic Representative and his co-sponsors have their way, the American people can each pay $100 to see a certified facsimile of the President's birth certificate. Has America or more correctly American leftist and liberal politicians gone out of their mind? And they admit, it's all for the dollar. The very idea is enough to turn one's stomach.

Saturday Late Afternoon News -- Jan. 29, 2011, CNN's push, the army, B.O., beware of democracy

After watching CNN all day, I am of the belief that CNN is trying to influence the White House indirectly to break with Mubarak and fully support the protesters.  Nic Robertson and others may as well come clean and just tell B.O. that for all they're doing now.

The Army in Egypt is not stopping the looting, but "urging" protesters not to loot.  Now, that's effective.  BBC reports that army is now appealing to protesters to also respect the curfew.  Is it possible they're getting the word that soon they'll need to take action?

On Saturday (today) B.O. met with his national security team on the subject of Egypt -- proof he's watching it carefully.  They are likely making plans as to what they will be required to do once Mubarak steps down.

We need to be mindful of the fact that while the world may see the events in Egypt as a "pro-democracy" revolution, we need to be very careful to distinguish between different types of democracy.  Let us not fool ourselves, as one BBC commentator wisely pointed out -- these protesters have some very wild ideas including a very high proportion of them wanting some strong penalties for certain crimes -- including the cutting off of fingers and hands and arms.  We may get a democracy but it will be clearly on Islamic terms when it finally arrives.   Nothing short of that will satisfy the Muslim Brotherhood.

BBC reports that army is calling on Egyptian Patriots to help stop the looting and the rioting in an effort to protect their families and the country.  Interesting.

Saturday Afternoon Musings @ 1:45 p.m. EST -- January 29, 2011, looting, Iran next?, note to Pastors

Looting reported at Cairo's Antiquities Museum.  People are standing guard in front of their own homes.  I thought the people were all together in this.  But maybe not.  Maybe it's the poor taking it out on the rich -- the doctors, the lawyers, etc.

Some analysts have been watching Iran this past week and wondering whether the people who protested about a year and a half ago are watching Egypt and saying "why not us, if Egyptians succeed".   If that's the case, keep an eye on Iran.  I'm sure Ahmadinejad has his ear to the ground -- or at least he has delegated that to one of his boys.  But the potential here is great.

And Pastors, what will you say about Egypt tomorrow?  If you remain silent, you are telling your congregation that what is happening in the rest of the world does not impact or affect us Christians here.  That would be a very bad message.   Please tell us what you plan to say.

Meanwhile, Israel is watching all this with great interest and thinking long-term.  So they should.  I just wish the Western Allies would do likewise.  Did you notice that the United Kingdom leaders are very quiet.  Of course, they probably have more Islamists to fear in their countries than most of us.  The world continues to be paralyzed into silence.

How are you feeling?  Are you afraid?  Do you care?  If the former, that's normal and to be expected.  If the latter, don't complain later.   If the former, you may wish to reconsider where you'll spend tomorrow morning.  Is it time to visit a place of worship near you?  That's not the ultimate answer, but you just may hear about the One Who alone can bring you peace.  What have you got to lose?  Nothing, but if we're right -- you have much to gain now and in the hereafter.

Alternatively, just keep watching CNN and increase your fear factor.  It's still a free world here.

A very alarming reality. The mainstream media is ignoring this. Or if they are not, they are saying the Muslim Brotherhood is only a moderate group. Officially, maybe, but not all of its factions. Is it time to rethink the relationship of Religion and Politics?

After I blogged about the Fox Network not allowing a Christian advertisement regarding John 3:16 during the Super Bowl game this year, a friend on Facebook wrote this on my wall: "When these kinds of issues arise I always remember the old saying: Stay away from discussing religion and politics. I think rational debate on either of these is not possible most of the time."

I do agree in her one phrase, "rational debate . . . is not possible most of the time."  But, I also
believe we need to find a way to discuss religion with politics and vice-versa.  We have ignored them too long.  We have tried to separate church and state when they cannot be.  Certainly the new world (the emerging Islamic world that is now in our face) is not seeing them or treating them that way.

I am not sure that Jesus would have us treat them that way, either.  Yes, He said we are to render unto Caesar what is Caesar's and unto God what is God's, but I believe that is all about obeying both in as far as it is possible.  That is, obeying the laws of the land where they do not contradict God's.  Other places in scripture bear that out.  But I believe  He wants us to take our "faith" into our lives and that includes into our civil responsibilities -- into our votes and into our influencing of others.  In short, into our blatant and not so blatant politics.  If our Lord cannot be our Lord in our politics (not necessarily the world's views, but ours), then can He be Lord of any thing?   And if He is Lord of my politics, then I must share Him when I share my views on politics.  In fact, I would go as far as to say, now is a good time for all good (Christian) men (and women) to come to the aid of their faith and take advantage of the times -- times when government without faith in God has proven to be a total failure.

These are just my thoughts.  What do you think?

Saturday Morning Musings -- January 29, 2011

Hurricanes: Here's something new I learned about these wild ocean storms.  According to veteran weather expert Brian Sussman, hurricanes are "God's great gifts to the earth. . . Among other benefits, hurricanes are an efficient conduit for hot equatorial air to be transported to colder parts of the planet, thus balancing out earth's average temperature."

Civil Unrests as of January 29th: Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Lebanon, Aleria, Jordan, Yemen.  That's seven. What's going on?

Egypt: Four o'clock curfew on Saturday in Egypt is being basically ignored.  Mubarak holding on, but people insistent.

Turning Enemies Into Friends:  It is interesting that as we face a world of "enemies", the New Testament gives us perhaps the only proven methodology for turning enemies into friends.  It says, "Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you."  Wow.  That's in Matthew 5:44.   We are told, "if you do this, God will reward you."   So, how does all this play out with respect to what is going on in the world today -- in Egypt, in Israel, and everywhere else?  Charles Stanley has a suggestion.  He says, "(do what the verse says) Even if your enemy continues to persecute you and do evil to you, God will find a way to bless you."   So that's it.  We won't necessarily be blessed by man, or what we expect in term's of physical blessings, but we will be blessed by God.  That's so hard to live by but yet, it may, in this world where God's arch-Enemy, Satan still is allowed to wield his power, it may just be the only salvation.  I encourage you to think about it.

Egypt's New Vice-President: Omar Suleiman, Egypt's spy chief appointed as new Vice-President of the country.  Could he take over from Mubarak?   Remains to be seen.   Also, Ahmed Shafiq, the minister of civil aviation, has been named the new prime minister.

Jacob Shifts The Blame To His Sons And They Defend Themselves - Genesis 43:6-7

Then Israel said, “Why did you treat me so badly by telling the man whether you still had another brother?” But they said, “The man questioned particularly about us and our relatives, saying, ‘Is your father still alive? Have you another brother?’ So we answered his questions.  Could we possibly know that he would say, ‘Bring your brother down?’

Put in a very difficult place by his family’s need for food to survive, and his sons telling him they won’t go to get any because the Egyptian ruler won’t sell them any unless their youngest brother Benjamin is brought to him, Jacob starts to strike out at the various reasons all this is happening to him.  He blames his sons for treating him badly by telling the Egyptian they had a younger brother.  How could they do that?  How could they not?  It was the truth.  But that never stopped them before (remember what they told Jacob about the disappearance of Joseph).  In fact, even now as they spoke to him, they lied.  If we look back at Genesis 42:8-12, Joseph never asked them whether Jacob was still alive or whether they had another brother.  No, they offered that information totally on their own.  Now, since Joseph had recognized them, chances are had they not said anything, he would have inquired of them about his father and younger brother.

The impact of these words in Jacob’s ears and heart just added to the agony that he was experiencing.  Suffice it to say that these two isolated verses from this chapter of Genesis can be used by each of us to ask ourselves this question:  What or who do we blame when things don’t go well for us?  Do we seek to blame others or do we turn to God to rescue us?  I pray we get our strength from the One Who created us for He alone can bring us through any circumstance, no matter what others did or did not do.

Fear of Islamists Paralyzes the U.S.

Time.com gives us a most honest perspective of what paralyzes the United States. Now, if the B.O. government would only admit it and get on with the job of dealing with it. Instead, it prefers to pussy-footing around with words. What America needs now is a true statesman (or woman) but not a wimp. In fact, the whole world would applaud a statesman.

Meanwhile in Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood's involvement is growing.  People are still ignoring the curfew.
