Britain says Give Gays Their Rights or Expect No Aid from the U.K.

At first you may say this is right. Or you may say this is just so wrong. But it's not that simple.

Every person deserves to be treated with dignity especially when it comes to "human rights" as most of us understand them.  You must not persecute anyone for being gay.   If you don't, British P.M. Cameron is saying, "we won't give you foreign aid."  A strong statement.  Let's look closer.

The problem arises when "gay rights" include rights which go beyond the "human rights" we all understand, and start infringing on demands reserved for the traditional approach to marriage, etc.,  e.g. equal rights in marriage, adoption, tax breaks, positions in religious, especially Christian, organizations, and so on.

Unfortunately, there is no way and no desire politically or socially for the U.K. or others to separate these two groups of demands.   What the British Prime Minister is demanding makes some sense for "human rights" -- it is out of line with what most of us believe in when it comes to the other "rights".  By introducing these conditions on aid, Britain is abetting the introduction of policies and laws in foreign countries that give gays and lesbians all they are demanding.

The good news is he seems to also have demanded "rights for Christians" in the same speech, but the media didn't focus on that. Take a look.
